FAQ

This is Claire again, and I’m always ready and willing to answer your questions. But here are a few that will help you understand Class Bake Sale, what it does and how it works. Anything else you need to know, just send me an email at claire@classbakesale.com.

What does Class Bake Sale do?

We really have just one purpose, and that’s to help worthy school and educational projects and activities raise the funds they need to be successful. We’re happy to help a teacher get money to buy supplies for the classroom, or a PTA sponsor a school prom, or a marching band enter a competition, or a tennis team get new equipment. If it’s about improving the learning process, we’re behind it here at Class Bake Sale.

Who can use Class Bake Sale?

Just about anyone or any organization associated with a school or educational program can utilize Class Bake Sale. Even students can set up a campaign, as long as they’re at least 13 years old, and have written permission from a teacher or school official. It’s a perfect tool for PTAs or for groups supporting a school function or activity. Marching band need new hats and gloves? Start a campaign. French club hoping for a summer trip to Paris? This is the place to raise the funds.

Who can contribute to a campaign?

Let’s just make this one simple and say anyone, from anywhere, at any time. If your son’s teacher has a campaign, please give. Or if you just want to help someone, somewhere learn more or have an opportunity, we welcome your interest and support.

How much does it cost?

Starting a campaign is free—there’s no application fee. The only cost is our 5% fee that helps keep Class Bake Sale running, and the very small fee charged by PayPal to handle the funds.

Do I have to reach my goal?

This is not a competition, but a way to raise funds. It’s good to have a goal, and we ask you to set one to work toward. But you get all the money you raise, minus the fees mentioned above, when your campaign is done. Of course, we hope you exceed your goal.

How do I make potential donors aware of my campaign?

This is where you can get creative. Think about who you can reach out to easily—if you’re a teacher, start with the families in your class, and encourage them to reach out to other family members (love those grandparents) and friends. Take advantage of social media to spread the word. Help people understand what you’re doing and why, and how much their support will do.

Can a campaign be from anywhere in the world?

We believe that Class Bake Sale is an international program and invite everyone to use it, regardless of where you’re located.

Are donations tax-deductible

Not all campaigns on Class Bake Sale will offer tax deductions. Normally, only a registered non-profit organization is allowed to offer tax deductions to donors, but this may vary due to location, local regulations, organizational status, etc. If you’re interested in a tax deduction, you should contact the organization running the campaign for details, since any tax receipt would have to come from that organization. You also can talk with your accountant or financial adviser for additional details.

Are refunds offered?

At Class Bake Sale, we’re committed to allowing a campaign to receive any funds raised, whether or not a specific goal is reached. Having a target objective is a good thing, but we believe donors really want their funds to be put to good use, so no refunds are offered. However, if a contribution was accidentally made twice or some other problem arises, there could be a refund.
